Connolly Dental is a dental clinic in the Connolly suburb of Perth that offers porcelain veneers for patients considering cosmetic dental restorations.
What is porcelain veneer?
Dental veneers are a cosmetic dental treatment used to enhance the appearance of teeth. They are very thin, custom-made shells made of porcelain or composite resin that is bonded to the front surface of teeth to mask discolouration, chips, and cracks; and to brighten teeth.
Porcelain Veneers vs Composite Veneers
Porcelain Veneers are a popular choice for cosmetic dentistry. They can cover chipped and broken teeth, by bonding wafer-thin shells (0.3 – 1.00 mm) of hand-made porcelain over your existing teeth, thus creating a natural-looking appearance and enhancing your smile.
Porcelain veneers are also stain-resistant and typically maintain their color better than natural teeth with proper care. While they resist staining from coffee, tea, and red wine better than natural teeth, individual results vary based on oral hygiene and lifestyle factors. If you are considering dental veneers, be sure to consult with a qualified cosmetic dentist to determine if they are the right choice for you.
Composite Veneers are composed of engineered resin and other materials which adhere to the outer surface of your teeth, and they have a different and possibly less natural appearance. They are less durable than porcelain veneers, with more chance of chipping and staining.
Why choose Connolly Dental?
- We utilise Digital Smile Design technology (DSD) for designing your veneers. Dr Lily Taheri is the only qualified Master of DSD in Western Australia and is credentialed for the use of DSD in her practice, having trained in New York with Dr Christian Coachman, the renowned founder of Digital Smile Design.
We are Orofacial artists. With extensive training in facial aesthetics, we will take into account much more than your teeth. We will take photos and 3D digital scans of your teeth, gums, jaw, lips and your face to create a 3D model. Then, with the help of digital diagnostic software, we will work with you to design your smile, based on your unique face shape, oral health and desired results.
You can test-drive your new smile prior to starting any treatment. Using 3D-printed temporary mock-ups from your digital design allows the finished result to be seen and physically worn by you rather than just imagined before starting or committing to any treatment.
You can change & modify the design before even touching your teeth. You as the co-author of your new smile will work with Dr Lily to modify colour, shape, and length to create your ideal smile prior to starting any procedure, giving you peace of mind about the end results.
- We use Smile donator technology for our designs. We use natural prototypes from our digital library of various natural forms and shapes that can be placed over the top of your teeth and as a result, you will get natural-looking and brighter teeth, which are balanced in shape and size, allowing your smile to look entirely natural.
- More accurate & predictable outcomes. Having the digital frame of your new smile we will be able to direct our master ceramists to create the exact replication of your tested design. This takes the guesswork out of your dental treatment and gives more predictability over the finished results.
- Minimally invasive dental veneers. We believe in additive design and Biomimetic dentistry. These concepts enable us to prepare the teeth with a minimal amount of removal, minimising the biological cost to the natural teeth structure.
Porcelain Veneers vs Composite Veneers
Porcelain veneers are considered the top choice for cosmetic dental treatments. They provide a solution for repairing chipped and broken teeth by bonding custom-made, ultra-thin shells of handcrafted porcelain to your existing teeth, creating a natural and seamless appearance that enhances your smile. With their stain-resistant qualities, porcelain veneers retain their bright, white colour even with regular exposure to coffee, tea, and red wine.
On the other hand, composite veneers are made of a combination of resin and other materials, which are bonded to the surface of your teeth. While they may offer a less expensive option, they may not provide the same durability and natural appearance as porcelain veneers. They are also more prone to chipping and staining over time.
It’s important to discuss your options with a qualified cosmetic dentist to determine which type of veneer is best suited to your needs and expectations. Your dentist will assess your dental health and help you make an informed decision.

Our Unique Porcelain Veneers Smile Makeover Process
Step 1 : Discovering Your Dream Smile With Initial Consultation And Personalised Digital Smile Design
All our smile makeover cases begin with a consultation. It begins with the most important person, you. This is where we listen to your story, your concerns, your smile aspirations and your goals. Your facial composition will be meticulously examined, by taking alignment, symmetry and proportion into consideration.
Measurements are taken of your lips, face shape and the arrangement of your teeth. Three dimensional photos & videos of every angle of your mouth are scanned digitally by an intra-oral scanner and the data is imported into our exclusive DSD software to start designing your dream smile.
Using natural prototype technology we copy & paste natural teeth shapes and specifications into your veneers or crowns. You can enhance your current teeth or even ask us to copy paste a family member’s teeth that you like into your new smile.
We also have a library of smiles that you can choose from and test drive, this is unique to DSD Clinicians. Our design process is not only about aesthetics, we will assess the way you speak, smile and bite, while also understanding what your dream smile looks like to ensure an accurate smile design that is aesthetically beautiful as well as functional.
Step 2: Test Drive & Trial Of Your Design
Now our unique protocol gives you a chance to actually test drive your new smile before committing to any treatment. It’s a world first & something we are very proud of as DSD-certified Master clinicians.
Before a single dental intervention takes place, we use high-precision printing technology to create a mock-up of your new smile that has been designed for you. A prototype that you can wear, see and feel! It’s a life-changing moment that gives you a glimpse of the emotional impact of your new smile on the rest of your life.
The simulation also allows us to thoroughly communicate the outcome of the treatment with you. This allows our patients to feel confident in their treatment by seeing the simulated end result and providing their feedback and applying any modifications as desired before treatment begins. If you are happy with the design then we will tailor a personalised treatment plan for you which suits you best.
Step 3: Preparation Stage And Temporary Veneers Application
At this appointment, we will prepare your teeth for fitting of your final Porcelain veneers based on your approved design. Our design protocols are based on new additive & biomimetic dentistry principles which makes our veneer preps minimally invasive to your natural tooth structure.
Once the preparations are completed, new impressions from your teeth and bite will be taken to be sent off to our master ceramists for handcrafting your final veneers. You will walk out with your temporary veneers which are placed on your prepped teeth. At this appointment, we further discuss and decide on the shade of your final veneers.
Step 4: Try In / Cementation
Once your final Porcelain Veneers are completed by our nationally renowned master ceramist, we will gently remove your temporary veneers and try in your final veneers with a temporary cement, so you get an opportunity to review your new smile before permanently cementing them in. Once both you and your dentist are completely happy with the fit and aesthetics of your new Porcelain Veneers, we will permanently cement your new Veneers and you’re ready to smile to the world.

Porcelain veneers require the same care and maintenance as natural teeth. This includes regular brushing and flossing, as well as regular dental check-ups to ensure that the veneers are in good condition. It is also important to avoid biting on hard objects or using teeth as tools, as this can cause the veneers to chip or break. Individual experiences with veneer longevity may vary.
If you’re considering dental veneers, it’s important to understand the associated costs and factors that influence pricing. On average, the cost of veneers ranges from $1500 to $2,200 per tooth, depending on the type of material used and the complexity of the procedure. If your teeth are stained or discoloured and don’t respond to whitening treatments, veneers may be able to alter the appearance of your teeth. Individual results vary. Veneers can also treat minor chips and cracks, and change or recontour the shape of your teeth if necessary. The use of the veneer can also correct slightly misaligned teeth which do not require further orthodontic treatment.
Porcelain veneers can be difficult to remove if you change your mind at a later date, and changes in your teeth in future years could cause the veneer to crack. It is important to maintain excellent oral hygiene to reduce the risk of dental decay around the edges of the veneer. Your dentist will provide guidance on proper dental care to minimise these risks. Individual experiences and outcomes may vary.
