Connolly Dental is a dental clinic in the Connolly suburb of Perth that offers porcelain veneers for patients considering cosmetic dental restorations.
What is porcelain veneer?
Dental veneers are a cosmetic dental treatment used to enhance the appearance of teeth. They are very thin, custom-made shells made of porcelain or composite resin that is bonded to the front surface of teeth to mask discolouration, chips, and cracks; and to brighten teeth.
Porcelain Veneers vs Composite Veneers
Porcelain Veneers are a popular choice for cosmetic dentistry. They can cover chipped and broken teeth, by bonding wafer-thin shells (0.3 – 1.00 mm) of hand-made porcelain over your existing teeth, thus creating a natural-looking appearance and enhancing your smile.
Porcelain veneers are also stain-resistant and typically maintain their color better than natural teeth with proper care. While they resist staining from coffee, tea, and red wine better than natural teeth, individual results vary based on oral hygiene and lifestyle factors. If you are considering dental veneers, be sure to consult with a qualified cosmetic dentist to determine if they are the right choice for you.
Composite Veneers are composed of engineered resin and other materials which adhere to the outer surface of your teeth, and they have a different and possibly less natural appearance. They are less durable than porcelain veneers, with more chance of chipping and staining.
Why choose Connolly Dental?
Digital Smile Design Technology (DSD)
We utilise Digital Smile Design technology (DSD) as part of our smile design process. Dr Lily Taheri has completed Mastership-level training in Digital Smile Design and is credentialed in the use of DSD protocols in clinical practice, having trained in New York with Dr Christian Coachman, founder of Digital Smile Design.Facially Guided Smile Planning
Our approach to smile design considers more than just the teeth. Using photographs, facial analysis and 3D digital scans of the teeth, gums, jaw and facial features, we create a digital model to assist with treatment planning. Digital design software is then used to help plan a smile tailored to the individual’s facial features, oral health considerations and treatment goals.Preview Your Proposed Smile Design
In suitable cases, 3D-printed mock-ups based on the proposed digital design can be trialled prior to treatment. This allows patients to preview aspects of the planned smile design and provide feedback before proceeding with treatment.Collaborative Smile Design Process
Patients are involved throughout the design process and may request modifications to aspects such as tooth shape, length and colour during the planning stage, helping align the proposed design with their preferences before treatment begins.Natural-Looking Smile Design Principles
Our digital smile design workflow may incorporate natural tooth shape references from a digital design library to assist in planning tooth proportions, contours and overall smile balance. This process aims to support natural-looking smile design outcomes that complement the patient’s facial features.Conservative Veneer Preparation Approach
Our treatment philosophy is guided by additive and biomimetic dentistry principles where appropriate. In suitable cases, this approach may allow for more conservative tooth preparation while aiming to preserve natural tooth structure wherever possible.Digital planning can help visualize potential outcomes. Individual results may vary.
Porcelain Veneers vs Composite Veneers
Porcelain veneers are considered the top choice for cosmetic dental treatments. They provide a solution for repairing chipped and broken teeth by bonding custom-made, ultra-thin shells of handcrafted porcelain to your existing teeth, creating a natural and seamless appearance that enhances your smile. With their stain-resistant qualities, porcelain veneers retain their bright, white colour even with regular exposure to coffee, tea, and red wine.
On the other hand, composite veneers are made of a combination of resin and other materials, which are bonded to the surface of your teeth. While they may offer a less expensive option, they may not provide the same durability and natural appearance as porcelain veneers. They are also more prone to chipping and staining over time.
It’s important to discuss your options with a qualified cosmetic dentist to determine which type of veneer is best suited to your needs and expectations. Your dentist will assess your dental health and help you make an informed decision.

Our Unique Porcelain Veneers Smile Makeover Process
Step 1 : Discovering Your Dream Smile With Initial Consultation And Personalised Digital Smile Design
All our smile makeover cases begin with a consultation. It begins with the most important person, you. This is where we listen to your story, your concerns, your smile aspirations and your goals. Your facial composition will be meticulously examined, by taking alignment, symmetry and proportion into consideration.
Measurements are taken of your lips, face shape and the arrangement of your teeth. Three dimensional photos & videos of every angle of your mouth are scanned digitally by an intra-oral scanner and the data is imported into our exclusive DSD software to start designing your dream smile.
Using natural prototype technology we copy & paste natural teeth shapes and specifications into your veneers or crowns. You can enhance your current teeth or even ask us to copy paste a family member’s teeth that you like into your new smile.
We also have a library of smiles that you can choose from and test drive, this is unique to DSD Clinicians. Our design process is not only about aesthetics, we will assess the way you speak, smile and bite, while also understanding what your dream smile looks like to ensure an accurate smile design that is aesthetically beautiful as well as functional.

Step 2: Test Drive & Trial Of Your Design
As part of our digital smile design workflow, suitable patients may have the opportunity to preview aspects of their proposed smile design prior to treatment. Using digital planning and high-precision mock-up technology, we can create a temporary prototype based on the planned design that can be viewed and trialled before treatment begins.
This process allows patients to visualise elements of the proposed smile design and provide feedback regarding aspects such as shape, length and overall aesthetics during the planning stage.
The mock-up process also supports communication between the patient, dentist and ceramist throughout treatment planning. If the proposed design is approved, a personalised treatment plan can then be developed based on the individual’s oral health needs, treatment goals and clinical considerations
Step 3: Preparation Stage And Temporary Veneers Application
At this appointment, we will prepare your teeth for fitting of your final Porcelain veneers based on your approved design. Our design protocols are based on new additive & biomimetic dentistry principles with treatment planned to preserve natural tooth structure wherever clinically appropriate.
Once the preparations are completed, detailed 3D digital scans from your teeth and bite will be taken to be sent off to our master ceramists for handcrafting your final veneers. You will walk out with your temporary veneers which are placed on your prepped teeth. At this appointment, we further discuss and decide on the shade of your final veneers.

Step 4: Try In / Cementation
Once your final Porcelain Veneers are completed by our experienced master ceramist, we will gently remove your temporary veneers and try in your final veneers with a temporary cement, so you get an opportunity to review your new smile before permanently cementing them in. Once both you and your dentist are completely happy with the fit and aesthetics of your new Porcelain Veneers, we will permanently cement your new Veneers and you’re ready to smile to the world.
Step 5: You SMILE
Cosmetic dentistry treatment is individually planned to enhance smile aesthetics while considering facial harmony and oral health factors. Many patients report satisfaction with their treatment outcomes, however individual results and experiences may vary.
